Fur Farms In Latvia

Animal Welfare Success at Fur Farms.

Last week, Latvia decided to ban fur farms within its borders. This makes Latvia the sixteenth country in the European Union to ban fur farms.

There is, however, one small downside:
The transition period until 2028 turned out to be longer than many animal rights activists had hoped. However, such long deadlines are the rule rather than the exception in animal welfare.

Freedom for Animals

The Latvian animal welfare organization “Freedom for Animals” has been advocating for animal welfare in Latvia for many years. The organization recently launched a petition calling for an end to these farms, which was signed by more than 42,000 animal lovers in Latvia.
The petition was also supported by 50 animal welfare groups. And last week, the Latvian Parliament decided to put this initiative into action.
A clear step in the right direction!

Trend

It is clear that there is a growing trend in Europe away from the sale and breeding of fur.
We hope that many more countries (including those outside Europe) will follow Latvia’s example.
To further drive this trend, the “Fur-Free Europe” citizens’ initiative was launched. You can find the link at the end of the article.
