Heubach Meadows

The Heubach Meadows

are located in the Maria Veen district of Reken, on the border with the Dülmen area.
The Heubach meadows are perfect for exploring by bike—you can easily make your way through the entire area on small roads. There’s plenty here for photographers to capture.

There are various breeding grounds for wild birds and plenty of pastures for horses.

The Heubach meadows are crisscrossed by a network of small streams, which make for wonderful photo opportunities.
If you’d like to explore the area by car, there are a few parking spots available.
Since there’s very little traffic on the roads, it’s usually no problem to pull over to the side of the road for a photo stop.

I find the area most charming in the early morning hours when patches of fog drift over the streams. As for the time of year, I recommend late summer or fall, since that’s when you have the best chance of capturing the Heubach meadows, adorned with patches of fog, on digital film.

Weatherproof Clothing

Since there are hardly any places to take shelter (except for 1 or 2 observation posts), you should pack a rain jacket.

Getting There and Refreshments

Maria Veen is easily accessible by car via either the A43 or the A31. For a bite to eat after your photo tour, you'll find several restaurants and a fast-food joint in Klein Reken.
You can find some recommendations in the article about the "Hohe Mark" nature reserve.

Since I live not far from the Heubach meadows, this is one of my favorite places to take photos.
As a result, you'll find many of the photos I took there in the gallery.
