Photils Override Labels
Photils Override Labels
"Override Labels" is a modification to the language file for the Photils Utilities.
These can be used to automatically generate tags in Darktable.
Darktable LUA
If you've loaded LUA scripts into Darktable via the Script Manager, you may have already come across the Photils script. You can download the scripts here. The Photils script in question can be found among the scripts in the "contrib" directory.
For this to work, you'll first need the Photils themselves. They are available for download on this GitHub page.
The installation is described on the page; an AppImage is available for Linux.
Once the LUA script is enabled in Darktable, you’ll be asked where the Photils are located when you first launch the program. There, you’ll specify the location of the AppImage.
Photils
Photils are automatic keyword suggestions. I wouldn’t necessarily call this AI, but the system works surprisingly well. You can adjust the accuracy of the results using a slider. At setting 0, all keywords are loaded; at 100, only the 100% matches are shown.
Sounds good, but there's one small drawback: The keywords are all in English.
On the Photils GitHub page: https://github.com/scheckmedia/photils-cli there are instructions on how to "override" the English keywords.
To do this, create a file named override_labels.json in the $HOME/.local/share/photils/ directory.
There, you can add translations following the format described on GitHub.
This is, however, a somewhat time-consuming task, as the Photils contain more than 3,000 keywords.
Nevertheless, I took the time to get started on the translation—you can download the file below.
Although it’s not yet complete as of today (October 31, 2023), it does contain the translations for the results on the first few pages—so the file should include the most important keywords.
Have fun with automatic tagging:
As of October 31, 2023: 1,592 translated keywords.
