Statify
Why I Chose Statify.
Ever since I switched my website to WordPress, I've been looking into all kinds of analytics solutions.
Statify was one of them.
I took a quick look at Matomo, but found it provided too much information.
After that, Slimstat and WP Statistics were used alternately. I can definitely recommend both solutions, although Slimstat provides slightly more detailed information.
Both plugins can be configured to comply with data protection regulations using IP anonymization.
However, after using them for a while, the question arises:
Do I really need this information?
Is it important to me which country the users are from?
Do I therefore need features like a world map that shows me where everyone is from?
Do I need a live view of who's currently browsing my site?
The longer I used the plugins, the more of these questions I could answer with “not really.”
Admittedly, at first it was fun to browse through the information, but I couldn’t really get any practical use out of it.
If this were a commercial website, things would probably be different. But for my purely personal website, the basic information about which sites users came from and which content they viewed is actually enough for me.
Statify in Detail
And that’s exactly the kind of information Statify provides. At a glance, I can see which search engine visitors came from and which content they viewed.
The entire process is fully compliant with data protection regulations, as it does not store any cookies or IP addresses.
There are a few extensions for the plugin that are quite helpful:
Blacklist and Widget, as well as the Extended Evaluation extension.
The latter provides a slightly more detailed analysis, which can also be exported as a CSV file for further processing.
For now, this information is enough for me. If I were to switch to a different plugin, it would most likely be WP Statistics.
Not because I think it's better than Slimstats, but because it appears (as of early 2019) to be under slightly more active development.
